HAMMERSMITH PARK, Shepherds Bush, London, claims to have the oldest traditional Japanese garden found in a public place in Britain. It is a focal part of the site of the 1910 JAPAN-BRITISH EXHIBITION.

In 2010 the LONDON BOROUGH OF HAMMERSMITH AND FULHAM decided to restore the by-then dilapidated Japanese garden and to make contemporary play areas on the site. Landscape architects CHURCHMAN THORNHILL AND FINCH provided drawings of the traditional Japanese boulder features. The arrangements were set out in Cornwall for approval before shipping to Hammersmith.
